Thi$ blog is $illy and ridiculou$.
It's a little crazy and definitely politically incorrect.
As our dear leaders keep congratulating themselves on their first world achievements and bragging about people from China and Russia (and who knows where) coming to learn from this little red dot, I'm so embarrassed by it all that I'm silly enough to try to balance it with some humility and silliness.
For those who are not aware, Singapore has the highest paid government ministers in the world and they are so bloody proud to glorify it!
Some costly examples below:
Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen once said “You’re getting a bargain for the ministers you get… I worked half as much and earn(ed) five times more when I was in the private sector.” (Channelnewsasia, 9 September 2003)
'You know, the cure for all this talk is really a good dose of incompetent government. You get that alternative and you'll never put Singapore together again: Humpty Dumpty cannot be put together again...and your asset values will be in peril, your security will be at risk and our women will become maids in other people's countries, foreign workers.'
- MM Lee - Justifying pay hikes for Singapore ministers, The Straits Times, 5 April 2007.
With the happenings that's happened lately like
- GST that was to help the poor now making the poor poorer
- Mas Selamat still missing
- Temasek & GIC throwing our money at ShinCorp, Merrill Lynch, CitiGroup, UBS, etc., and even ABC leaning by the billions
- First in Asia to be in recession in 2008 with more retrenchment and job loss
- Investors crying foul of MAS approval of toxic minibonds and high notes by financial institutions like DBS
- Town Councils gambling away and losing millions of the S&C (service and conservancy) fees paid by HDB residents
- Lame explanation by Minister for the TC's losses
Or have we paid too little to deserve this "good dose of incompetent government" ?
This is ridiculous but what the heck.
If you read "Wanted: People like her" in Straits Times of 17 Dec 2008, you may get what I mean. For every China born professional like Leiny Tan in Singapore's Wall Street in Shenton Way, how many China born streetwalkers do we get in Singapore main street in Geylang?
To add 50 professionals of Leiny's calibre to come to Singapore every year , do we get 500 of the whoring calibre to add on to Singapore annually too?
If you take a walk in our neighbourhood in Geylang, you'd get my drift.
This is $illy but this is what we pay them to do.
